FAQ Internet
How do I get access to the Internet?
- Connect up to a SkyXS wireless network and launch the Internet browser.
- Enter your username and password.
- When finished, do not forget to log out! This is your responsability!
Do I get a new e-mail address for e-Welfare?
No, you can use your own e-mail addresses.
I cannot open web pages with Internet Explorer 7.
Internet Explorer version 7 can be used in both Windows Vista and Windows XP.
This package has been found to give problems with a great many websites. This is a general problem and is therefore encountered in e-Welfare as well. We recommend Firefox as browser, in combination with Adblock Plus to block advertisements. You can download these applications through our support menu at Internet software.
I have installed Windows Vista, but cannot get a connection.
Windows Vista automatically installs the IPv6 protocol. You should disable this protocol and only use IPv4.
See Computer settings on how to disable IPv6 in Vista and XP >>>
Loading Internet pages is extremely slow.
Please refresh the page by using Control + F5. If this does not help it might be that you do not have a good wireless connection. Your laptop indicates that you have good reception, but the transmission power of your laptop back to the Access point is much lower.
As a result, the IP packets have difficulty getting back to the Access point, which in turn requests your laptop to retransmit them.

Sending e-mail by Outlook (Express) does not work
Not all Internet providers support sending e-mail traffic via the network of a different provider (SMTP). Some providers will accept this if the username and password are also sent. This can be modified in the account settings of your e-mail program.
If this does not work, you could try changing the server for outgoing mail to SMTP.SKYXS.NET.
As an alternative, you can also use the webmail of your Internet provider to read and send messages (via the Internet browser). Check your Internet provider’s website to see exactly how to do this.
Yet another alternative is to use a Google mail account (Gmail). These e-mail accounts support POP and SMTP and can be sent and retrieved via Outlook Express.
I can no longer log out
It is up to you to ensure you log out. The safest way to do this is to log out via the hotspot page (http://hotspot.e-welfare.nl) and then switch off your wireless connection.
You will be logged out automatically if you have not used the Internet for some minutes. However, many programs such as Windows Update and chat programs like MSN make a connection in the background and thus prevent this from happening. So double-check this! Users are themselves responsible for logging out.
Programs that start up in the background can be switched off by means of the 'MSCONFIG' command. Run this command by clicking the ‘Start’ button, clicking ‘run’ and then typing 'MSCONFIG'. Under the ‘Start up’ tab you can then check or uncheck the programs.
